OBS POST #39: I Am Back
For reasons known and unknown, I have not written an OBS Post since April
Howdy, it’s been a while since my last OBS Post, and it’s been a while since I felt like writing one to be perfectly honest. It has been a very emotional year. October 7th hit me hard. Not just because I have family in Israel, although that contributes to the intensity of feelings. No, it seems to be tied into my absolute abhorrence of war and really not knowing what is the right way to handle the travesty of the 7th. Throw that in with the big time rise in antisemitism, and I just had to take a break from OBS Post. Discerning the truth from a lot of noise takes a lot of painstaking deliberation and most importantly observation. My motto over these last several weeks has been to CREATE or DIE. I do promise to reinvigorate my OBS Post efforts!
Coupled with this, I have been working on and completing my new book, the ABOLITIONISTS POETRY HANDBOOK ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING. It has been truly a work of love, and I am pretty pleased with the outcome. I would like to tell you a bit about it.
Those of you who know me, know that human rights are foremost in my universe and the most important area of my creations. My book ONE CHILD SOLD was my first book in this genre. It was very human rights oriented, with some attention to trafficking. The handbook, however, is a total smash on human trafficking with poetry coming from the minds of victim, predator and parent. I tried to write from the viewpoint of each. The manuscript was sent out to law enforcement professionals (who work in human trafficking), surviving victims and my mentor Dottie Laster who has rescued thousand of children from the hands of predators and I write her Traffic Report newsletter. I got some great input and some strong validation for my efforts. I would greatly appreciate your getting a copy, and you can order it here!
ABOLITIONISTS POETRY HANDBOOK ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Jaffe's poetry delicately exposes the orchestrated dehumanization, a precision that scars every soul involved, from the enslaved to the buyers. As a survivor, I see my own journey reflected in the lines that unveil the fragility and strength of the human spirit. The Handbook becomes a testament to the struggles I and others like me have faced, a mirror reflecting our resilience against a backdrop of darkness. ~~ KV Survivor
Note from K upon receiving the book:
That moment when you go to the mailbox and find a book with your review on the back!!
I was honored when Larry contacted me last year and asked if I would be willing to read his poetry collection and provide feedback.
It's SOOO GOOD.
He totally gets it. He has such a firm grasp on the issue and has a way of articulating it in such a beautiful and eloquent way- I highly recommend grabbing yourself a copy!
Larry Jaffe is an incredible human, a talented poet, and such a huge friend and fighter for survivors of trafficking. Please support his work!
Larry Jaffe has resurrected the voices of those who have been drowned from tyranny in an art many today do not appreciate or know. Poetry, and other techniques in its likeness, provide a platform for human expression without filters and social constraints. Through poetry, truth can spill forth like a mountain river and pools in the basin for a drink. Awaken to the sounds of the river, awaken to the sounds of the souls who need you. Awake. Each of us can contribute something to the cause. Free the oppressed men, women, and children from the bonds of tyranny so they can also enjoy the peace of the river. Listen to the wind and your heart, they will identify the gift you can deliver to help the oppressed. This conceptual ideology is the aim of Larry Jaffe’s work. ~~CN Law Enforcement Professional
